Description
Terbiser is an antifungal medication containing the active ingredient Terbinafine. It is produced by R&S Pharmaceutical and is available in two common formats shown in the image:
-
Terbiser Forte (Tablets): An oral treatment containing 250mg of Terbinafine. This is typically used for systemic fungal infections, such as those affecting the fingernails or toenails (onychomycosis).
-
Terbiser Cream (Topical): A 1% w/w topical formulation (10g tube) used for localized skin infections like athlete’s foot, jock itch, or ringworm.
How It Works
Terbinafine belongs to the allylamine class of antifungals. It works by inhibiting a specific enzyme (squalene epoxidase) in the fungus. This action creates a deficiency in ergosterol—a key component of fungal cell membranes—and a toxic accumulation of squalene, which eventually kills the fungus.
